Internet Phenom Charice Pempengco to sing for Obama

Charice Pempengco, the diminutive 16-year old Filipina Internet singing phenomenon, is slated to sing at the pre-inaugural ball of US President Barack Obama on January 18 at the Grand Hyatt Washington Hotel.

Charice will be singing two numbers: "God Bless America" and a Whitney Houston hit "One Moment in Time".

Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that a series of pre-inaugural shows have been lined up before the inauguration that will take place on 20th of January, one of which will feature Pempengco and another one that will include mutliple-Grammy award-winning cellist Yo-yo Ma and Bono at the Lincoln Memorial.

Pempengco, a 3rd place winner of a 2005 talent search in the Philippines called "Little Big Star" shot to international fame after being discovered through youtube in 2007 . Her powerful big voice atypical to those of singers her age led her to perform at the Ellen de Generes Show in December 2007 and subsequently at the Paul O' Grady Show in England in April 2008 and at the Oprah Winfrey Show in May 2008 where she sang Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing" in a special segment called "The World's Smartest Kids".

Her resume boasts of performances with renowned artists, including a duet with Andrea Bocelli in his birthday concert in Lajatico, Italy and with Celine Dion at the Madison Square Garden in New York. She also performed at the Festival of the Century in the Netherlands, singing to a massive audience of 50,000 football fans; at the Andre Agassi Grand Slam for Children Benefit Concert at Wynn Las Vegas where she met her idol Mariah Carey; at David Foster and Friends Chairty Gala and Concert at Winspeare Center in Edmonton, Alberta, Canda; at the annual Charity of Hope Ball 2008 in Beverly Hills, California in support of the charity founded by actress Barbara Davis to aid diabetes-stricken children; at Macy's 150 Years Anniversary Celebration in New York City; and in Good Morning America with David Foster to promote Foster's latest album "Hitman: David Foster and Friends."

Such a fete for a 16-year old singer huh!
